Buck 'n Bass Branding

Branding

An established taxidermy business wants to rejuvenate their logo. They want to stand out without straying too far from the competition.

We decided to stick to native South African animals that are easy to recognized. The client’s choice was a hartebeest, a type of antelope very common in the South African savana.

The client, the challenge and the solution

The client, the challenge and the solution

Buck & Bass is a taxidermy business located in Cape Town, South Africa. They work in association with a tour company catering to foreign clients, especially from the USA. The competition is big for this type of businesses in South Africa, where hunting is still legal. The biggest problem the client was facing was an outdated logo, struggling to find a symbol that represented them and the nature of their business and trying to stand out without straying too far from the competition.

The Solution

I tried to stay away from easy recognizable symblos, such as the Kudu, which is used abundantly, even South African national parks have it as an emblem. There was another type of antelope, perhaps overlooked but nonetheless beautiful, so I decided to go for a hartebeest jumping, and showing how powerful can it also be.

The color palette was chosen to mimic hunting colors, nature and the dryness of the South African landscape.
